  • Drew Girton

    Co-Owner/Head Coach/Director of Programming

    Drew found CrossFit in 2010 after many years in the fitness industry. He was one of the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coaches at Western Michigan University from 2002-2004, then went on to personal training from 2007-2013. Between 2010 and 2013, Drew and his wife, Chris, had their first child and during that time, they began working toward opening CrossFit Pendulum. Since opening their doors, Drew has been focused on constantly improving as a coach, providing the best programming and training experience, and helping those working through injury recovery to become fitter than ever before. As a coach and owner of CrossFit Pendulum, he loves seeing the community grow as a supportive group with no egos. Outside of the gym, Drew loves his family, faith, pour over coffee, Michigan Football, and Detroit sports teams.

  • Chris Girton

    Co-Owner/Head Coach

    Before finding CrossFit, Chris had 10 years of experience in personal training. Although she impacted people’s lives one-on-one, she found that the group training format through CrossFit was also effective aesthetically and on a performance level. The energy of the group setting is what she uses to motivate and push people to bring their best, and what she truly appreciates about being a coach is seeing people overcome their personal mental limitations. Chris also enjoys being active outside of the gym, having completed 8 marathons, 3 half marathons, playing tennis recreationally, and raising two children.

  • Dario Ruiz

    Co-Owner/Coach

    Dario started working with Drew and Chris while recovering from shoulder surgery, and it was then that he fell in love with CrossFit. He became so passionate about it that he shifted his focus from a successful run in tennis to CrossFit, full time. Dario played rugby in Argentina, going on to win 2 championships, then became team captain for the USTA League with only 5 years of playing under his belt. His passion for athletics and CrossFit went hand-in-hand so he obtained his certifications, and partnered with Drew and Chris to open CrossFit Pendulum. Today, he enjoys participating in CrossFit competitions and being able to give the members of Pendulum tools that improve their lives.

  • Johnny Caballero

    Coach

    Johnny is passionate about many things, but most about the Pendulum community. He loves that none of the members have egos, that it’s about friendly competition and personal improvement. As an athlete, Johnny was active in sports all throughout high school and college. He found CrossFit during his last year at Loyola Marymount College, joined Pendulum after graduating, and started coaching shortly after.

  • Liz McQuitty

    Coach

    Liz has plenty of experience as a personal trainer and makes the shift to CrossFit Pendulum from another private gym. She considers herself a gym rat who is passionate about fitness with community so CrossFit suits her perfectly. For her, CrossFit Pendulum is a sanctuary where she finds motivation and positivity on a daily basis. She loves that she is part of a place where the members are free to celebrate their achievements and reveal their vulnerabilities without judgment, but with all the support that they need.

  • Monica Au-Yeung

    Coach

    Monica is an athlete and coach who left her career as a high school chemistry teacher to pursue her true passion in fitness. Her goal as a coach is to empower her athletes and help discover how capable their bodies and minds are. Monica strives to teach and motivate, rather than just instruct classes. “Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for life.”

  • George Huerta

    Coach

    Trainer George Huerta got snatched up by CrossFit Pendulum when they saw him compete in the 2015 CrossFit Open. That kind of performance and intensity just had to become part of our gym.

    Becoming a trainer is a dream come true for George. He says he “quit my office job and jumped at the chance.” Today, he’s passionate about impacting people’s lives for the better. “If I can help others live healthier, happier, and higher-quality lives, I have done my job. Not only as a coach, but in life.”

    He brings his years of training in power lifting, calisthenics, and Olympic lifting to CrossFit Pendulum. George says he couldn’t have done it “without the blood, sweat, and tears I have put in the gym or the love and support of those in this community.”
